Public Servant Awards Luncheon
The Rotary Club of Memphis East is once again hosting the annual Bobby Dunavant Public Servant Awards Luncheon on April 28, 2010, at the The Peabody Hotel in the Grand Ballroom. This luncheon, now in its seventh year, was established in 2003 to recognize distinguished work by public servants in Memphis and Shelby County as a way of honoring the legacy of Bobby who passed away in January 2003. Bobby, who served the public for 21 years as Probate Court Clerk, has been described by many of his colleagues as one of the finest public servants to ever serve this community.
It is therefore our honor again to host this greatly anticipated event to recognize one elected and one non-elected official at this year’s luncheon. It also gives us an opportunity to recognize other local public officials who regularly attend the luncheon and help to nominate and select the honorees. Winners are selected based on the characteristics best displayed by Dunavant during his career in public service. Past winners include Robert Lanier, retired Circuit Court Judge; Robert Lipscomb, CEO Memphis Housing Authority; Bill Gibbons, Shelby County District Attorney; Joe Reves, CAO, Shelby County Register’s Office; Mayor A.C. Wharton, Shelby County Mayor; the late Dorothy Osradker, Senior Assistant City Attorney; Judge Larry Potter, Shelby County Environmental Court; David Barber, Shelby County Division of Corrections; Mayor Keith McDonald, Mayor of Bartlett; Brian L. Kuhn, Shelby County Attorney, William C. Boyd, Memphis City Council, and Larry A. Godwin, Memphis Police Director.
Please don’t miss out on this year’s event. Keynote speaker for this year is former U. S. Senator William Philip (Phil) Gramm – (R-TX). We’ll also have our regular Master of Ceremony, Joe Birch, News Anchor of WMC stations. Help us show our public officials how much we appreciate the good work they do.
